Transfer promoting simulation in education for high technology professions

Introduction: High technology professions within healthcare such as Biomedical Laboratory Science and Radiography generates educational challenges, as the equipment in the teaching laboratory differs from the more advanced and often fully automated equipment used in clinical praxis. This lead to far transfer of learning, as students may find it difficult to identify identical elements between situations in teaching laboratories and the clinical praxis, and thereby create transfer. Far transfer requires extra attention to the didactic approach to help students gain transfer. The focus of this project was to change the current practice in the teaching laboratory towards increased simulation and initiatives that supports transfer.
Objective: The aim of the project was to develop a new didactic educational concept to increase transfer promoting simulation of the work of high technology clinical praxis, performed in teaching laboratories.
Method: Literature search combined with focus group interview with students at Biomedical Laboratory Science and Radiography, UCL University College, Denmark.
Outcome: An educational concept consisting of a didactic model accompanied by a reflection guide for making didactic reflections to prepare simulation in teaching laboratories. The poster presents the concept and examples of didactic changes made using the concept.
