BeskrivelseA seminar on how Western and Japanese comics traditions have interacted and developed together and apart, “Manga and Comics: Isolation and Inspiration” combined academic lectures with artist interviews. The seminar was well attended, with the intimate venue filled to capacity (80 attendees) before lunch and 80% full after lunch. On estimate, up to half of the guest were visitors from other universities, mainly Aarhus University and Aalborg University. Though no formal survey was conducted, informal inquiry indicated that both guests and speakers found the day enlightening and useful. “Manga and Comics: Isolation and Inspiration” represented a wide-ranging and inspiring discussion of the ways in which Western and Japanese comics traditions have related to each other and how they will relate to each other in the future. Several talks suggested great potential for future interaction and cross-pollination between the two traditions, especially as the comics medium moves further into the digital realm.
